Cigar Destinations: Festivals that cater to smokers Dedicated
Cigarette smoking is all about shared pleasure. After all, as it passes Victorian England and became a national pastime in part because it gave men something to do with their hands while they talked after dinner. And he took it during the "boom cigar "of the 1990s due in part to new publications, online forums, cigar clubs, and other public places cigar smokers allowed to talk about their passion.
So it's no surprise to find the cigar-related events throughout the social calendar of smokers worldwide. Plus the luxurious and expensive large conventions as cigarette smoke by Aficionado magazine – at least twice a year, in Las Vegas and New York City – is the Festival Ybor City in Tampa, Florida free and open to the public. And that's only November. Take a look at some other possibilities, more exotic worldwide.
The Dominican Republic is the world's largest source of premium cigars, surpassing even Cuba (of which many of the families of the manufacture of snuff in the country and emigrated during technologies the years after Castro). The Aurora, Davidoff, Arturo Fuente, and La Gloria Cubana, among many others, all work there, and from 2007, has its own festival cigarettes a year already! Taking place in Santiago, two days PROCIG Festival (the first of which was held 5-7 March 2008) appears cigar factory tours, field visits to snuff, the chances of rubbing elbows with some of the best cigar makers in the world, cigars and spirits and fighting. Companies such as Dawn, General Cigar Co., and Tabacalera de Garcia, among others, participated, and the arc of opening was successful enough to motivate a second – which is a holding of 16 February 20 2009.
While you're there, if you go, you might want to check out some of the attractions offered by this important cultural destination capital. The Dominican Republic was the first by the Europeans permanently settled in any place at any American continent – the oldest cathedrals, universities, and European roads may be prepared to find there. Santo Domingo, the capital of the country, against the butts of their southern coast, with stunning views (the Festival PROCIG takes place farther north, in Santiago, but the country is not super-important in total area). four mountain ranges decorate the country, the Central Cordillera ("Cordillera Central") is close to Santiago, for visitors to the Festival PROCIG could also schedule a day trip to see the Pico Duarte, the jewel of the Cordillera Central and the highest peak in the West Indies (over 3000 meters). And, of course, James is itself located in the Cibao Valley – Between the Cordillera Central and Northern Corillera (Sierra Norte), which run parallel to each other – and it is this rich and fertile area that houses most of the farms in the country, including the farms of snuff.
Or you could follow in the footsteps of author James Joyce and visit Zurich, Switzerland, where the expatriate scholar Ireland modernist writer completed a large part of his surrealist novel Finnegans Wake, where the candles Whiskyship each November. (What about the events of November and the cigar?) This whiskey tasting event, which also offers three hundred premium cigars for sampling, allows those with sharp noses and palates to enjoy whiskey malt worldwide, and enjoy the company of people with similar tastes. The Whiskyship 2008 will be the event as the tenth. Switzerland, of course, has all kinds of other places interest – among other things, there's the James Joyce Foundation, but also, you know, mountains and crystal clear lakes and thousands of years worth of European landscapes – and worth a visit regardless.
Another possibility – although somewhat closer to home, at least for North American smokers – is the Cigar Festival in Lincoln Nebraska. Taking place in late November (which faces against the Festival of Ybor City and the two large CA Smoke on the attention from fans Midwest cigars that I have no desire to go to Zurich), the one-night event brings in cigarettes, snacks and a couple of drink tickets for those willing to shell out and meet the admission fees at the beginning of the cold Midwest winter.
