Whiskeytown Lake is a lake in Shasta County, in northwestern California, about 8 miles west of Redding. The lake is located in the Whiskeytown Unit of the Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. It has a capacity of 241,100 acre-feet (297 million m³) and is formed by Whiskeytown Dam Clear Creek. Additional water comes from Lewiston Dam, provided by the Trinity River, through the tunnel of Clear Creek, which comes from the bottom of Trinidad Lake. Before entering the lake, the water generates hydroelectric power in the 154 MW Judge Francis Carr Powerhouse. Whiskey Creek also flows into the lake. Much of lake water rises in the Spring Creek Tunnel, which delivers water to the 180 MW Spring Creek Powerhouse, which leads to Keswick Dam tailrace. The 117-MW in Keswick Keswick is Powerhouse empty dam on the Sacramento River. The soil fill dam is 263 feet (80 m) tall and was completed in 1963. Owned and operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation USA. It aims to provide flood control, water for irrigation and electricity generation. There are also recreational activities available in the lake, including camping, swimming, boating, water skiing and fishing. However, personal watercraft have been banned in the lake.
