how do you think the winning party in the general election will try to reduce the government deficit?

we are starting to hear and see reports in the media that both labour and tory have plans to claw back
billions of pounds off the taxpayer.
there have been reports that they will put £1 on the price of spirits like vodka, whisky, etc.
and may slap up to 25p on a pint of beer.
also using health as an excuse it looks like there are plans for an enormous rise in the price
of cigarettes and tobacco.
and they will even consider the health obesity card by banging huge taxes on takeaway burgers
or food with a high fat content.
we have not heard a single media statement though on extra bank taxes or bonuses.
what do you think they will do.

Labour is in now, have they curtailed spending? No, so do you think they are going to do it now, and if they do, will anything they scale back be a drop in the bucket to what has already been inflated? Whichever party can sell the idea that they will reduce spending is likely to get in. I think that you are in worse shape than we (USA) are, and we are in bad, bad shape
The only way to do it, is government getting their noses out of where they do not belong, i.e. business. They also have to stop entitlement programmes, unfortunately many Britons were brought up (since WW11) believing that government should make all of their decisions for them. Sad
