Throughout Germany, there Several different companies produce more than 4,000 different brands of beer. Some of the most well known and largest companies in northern Germany are Beck, St. Pauli, Warsteiner and Krombach. In southern Germany, there are more breweries, although most of them are smaller, since they are owned and operated local. Southern Germany also contains the Benedictine Abbey, which is one of the oldest breweries in the world. This brewery started producing beer in 1040 – very impressive indeed!
Germany is also home to the Oktoberfest, held each year in Munich. Oktoberfest begins in late September and carries out for two weeks, ending in early October. During Oktoberfest, beer drinkers around the world will travel to Germany and celebrate German beers. Every year, more than 5 million people attend the event, making it one of the largest celebrations of beer in the world.
During Oktoberfest, local breweries Munich breweries are only allowed to serve beer in large tents. There are six breweries in total, producing a variety of beers different. By attending this annual event, you can learn more about German beer, sample the different varieties, and enjoy the rich bold flavors that make beer German so popular.
Due to the success Oktoberfest gets each year, other cities around the world try to mimic this event. Although successful, the level of Success is not by as much as the original Oktoberfest – Germany. German beers are very popular around the world, with Oktoberfest helping to prove that statement too. If you drink beer, but have never experienced what beers from Germany have to offer, you should really give them a chance. Once you do, you soon realize why German beers are so popular – and why the taste simply can not be duplicated with any other beer.
