Small Beer Mugs

Does anyone know the name of the book containing the history of slang words?
For example: the word "snitch" came from a famous gun slinger who had a shooting contest with another shooter to see who would get with a girl he loved. They began to hunt a mug of beer in each head than others – then a smaller vessel – and, finally, a shot glass. One of the shooters missed the shot glass and killed his opponent. Your name was "Fink". Many people wondered whether or not Fink missed the target on purpose. "Fink" was later shot to death by the supply of local lawyers. So that is the name of "fink" wine. I would like to know of any published book that gives this kind of history of various idioms that have been passed from generation to generation.
