Beer takes a great leap forward in Thailand
beer and cider barrel project in Thailand have taken a big step forward in 2009 with the emergence in early year of some premium beers, both in the UK, France and Australia. Bangkok-based importer of liquid Asia and the Pacific now has seven high-end brands of beer that is imported from these countries along with two English ciders. Most of these brands are available in draft kegs and bottles and the company imported brands has more than any other importer project in Thailand.
The brands that are available are Smoothflow Tetley, Victoria Pride bitter, Stowford press cider and Weston of the United Kingdom, France Kronenbourg 1664 and Foster's beer, Victoria Bitter, Crown Lager and Pure Blonde beer in Australia. And these brands are available at the tourist and expatriate communities around the country with a widespread distribution over Bangkok, Pattaya and Eastern Seaboard area, Phuket, Samui, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai. There are now several hundred outlets in the country that carry one or more of these marks either in bottles or draft.
At the end of fluids Asia and the Pacific will bring even more on the brands as well, with beer Grolsch of the Netherlands and Italy's Peroni beer to join business alignment. This is another good news for beer lovers top quality and can be difficult to appreciate why this is so, without some explanation on the situation of beer here in Thailand.
First, in early 1930 the government granted a monopoly to a company, Boonrawd Brewery, beer in the country did under the Singha brand name. This monopoly lasted until the mid-70s when other companies were allowed to establish factories foreign beers beer and gradually allowed to be imported. However, the market is still dominated by Singha, Chang – another Thai brand – and a version Heineken produced locally. If one of these beers is not one of your favorites, then you're in luck in many places around the country, particularly if you're a little out of beaten path.
Second, many of the companies that imported beer in Thailand are small and poorly funded and often have problems supply resulting in bars and restaurants do not have stock for periods of time. In addition, these companies tend to import almost exclusively bottled beers and the project. Import draft beer requires a much higher cost of capital from sending barrels is more expensive and there are high costs associated with provision of necessary equipment for the project to serve to beer. A company more well-funded as a fluid Asia-Pacific has the capital to handle these requirements.
Anyway, here are some of the reasons why it is something new to beer drinkers in Thailand when new brands, especially those in the countries of origin, some expats, get to the land of smiles. As time passes, the selection of beer in the kingdom gradually gets better and with the addition of premium brands such as the bringing of fluids Asia and the Pacific in the batch of beer drinkers here has taken a major step forward in a short period of time.
