State should not expect
have children enrolled
in insurance programs
The story "undertake to insure every child loses punch Nixon" (Nov. 24), the Missouri Department of insufficient social services for further action to enroll eligible uninsured children in Medicaid and State Children's Program Health Insurance. Jack Cardetti, a spokesman Governor Jay Nixon, said the governor's office "want to see what Congress does with the health problem" before taking further steps to help the state meet eligible uninsured children.
most vulnerable children in the state of Missouri should not be in limbo until the comprehensive health reform legislation is passed. In fact, not have to wait. Congress gave new tools for Missouri and additional funding to increase enrollment of children in Medicaid and CHIP when it passed the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act this year. That legislation has fueling efforts to enroll eligible low income uninsured children. Many states are taking advantage of new opportunities to streamline their programs to help children enroll and stay enrolled without useless bureaucracy. Missouri should do the same.
Moreover, while the article focuses on a new strategy called "Eligibility track quick, "there are other simple and effective measures to help Missouri deal with low-income children eligible. The state must take steps to protect your investment in children who already are registered to ensure they do not fall off the program due to unnecessary bureaucracy. These measures would help ensure that children treated for medical problems not experience a gap in care, reduce serious illness among children and save the state money in the long term. Cyprus is help make the governor with his promise to the state's children and families.

Change needed in the Metro
The editorial "Unit: In transit" (Nov. 27), which favors another tax increase for Metro transit agency, misrepresented the situation. Metro does not have an income problem as much as management problem. Also has a problem with local authorities – in particular the Executive St. Louis County Charlie Dooley.
Mr. Dooley and the County Council of St. Louis cut of $ 8.5 million budget of Arts last year to scare voters to approve an increase taxes. This should be followed by $ 10,000,000 in annual cuts, part of a campaign to get voters to approve a tax hike. The county has the money, but deviates.
Metro offers several million dollars for transit subsidies University of Washington. This includes a transport service that had been operated by a private contractor. The University of Washington is one of the richest universities in the nation, and the cost of almost $ 50,000 a year for tuition and full board.
Metro offers free parking at its nearly 12,000 parking spaces. Even a modest charge would bring in millions of dollars annually. Installation turnstiles at Metrolink stations could increase revenue by a considerable amount. Studies in other cities have found that 5 percent of the runners do not pay an open system.
If St. Louis County to permit the restoration of the funds that rightfully should go to Metro, and the transit agency would initiate some needed changes in the way it operates, no need to transport a third of sales tax.

strong beer, irony
"Brew packet hit: 27 percent. Alcohol" (01 December), a story about utopias beer, prepared by Samuel Adams, gives rise to two observations.
First, Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Brewery is wrong. Boston Beer Co. is not have "clear title to have the strongest beer. That distinction belongs to the Scottish BrewDog brewery whose beer Penguin tactical nuclear has an alcohol content of 32 percent, which is significantly higher than the level of 27 percent of utopias.
Secondly, utopias is named after the fictional land of Utopia ("no place") made famous by Thomas Moore and François Rabelais. In Rabelais's account, the existence of Utopia was threatened by an invasion of Dipsodes ("thirsty"). There is an irony in the appointment of a strong beer after a mythical land where people were mortal enemies of the drinkers.

Burdens of war
Republicans are howling opposition to a proposed war tax "to support the seemingly endless conflict in Afghanistan and the Middle East. Obviously, they prefer to continue to increase the deficit started by the previous administration to fund the war, despite howling also against the possibility of increasing the deficit could possibly be caused by the introduction of health reforms. How do you imagine the bills for the war, attention health or any other national program be paid? For our children and their children?
When George W. Bush started this war with their misguided cowboy diplomacy, his advice to Americans was to "go shopping." Indeed they did, and the 2000s saw the financial profligacy not witnessed for decades before in high and low places. Maybe it's time to grow up and take responsibility for the actions of our country, whether we agree with them or not.
If we are to continue this war, however unjustified, we must accept its burdens.

Rules of engagement
Three and a half months without extreme sense of engineered with the most stupid plan in the history of our geopolitical and military: President Barack Obama actually saying how many troops the enemy being sent to Afghanistan, when they are coming and, incredibly, when you are going. He expects our military to have miraculously Afghans trained and able to protect and safeguard their own country in just one year, despite the fact that only 14 percent of the Afghan people can even read.
Add to relatively new rules of participation for our troops – a passive, not call in air support for fear of collateral damage – our armed forces not Obama, is being created for failure.
This absurd "plan" says the Taliban have to wait until the Americans leave. Afghans have made side of the Taliban because the Taliban will be there when we leave. Our friends do not support us knowing that we do not have the will to win.
Our troops are being used for political purposes.

Metastatic madness
Afghanistan a land of madness metastases. Three things are produced here: heroin, Berserkers and hatred. Ask Alexander, the British in the 19th century, the Russians in the 20th century and now, our brave soldiers in those unforgiving, God-forsaken mountains.
The real goal of Islamic fundamentalists in Afghanistan is to pressure Pakistan and become aware of nuclear weapons that contains the nation in its arsenal. We are trying to help Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan. I support this with pleasure, because if the fundamentalists succeed in the radicalization of Pakistan, then India, with its 2 million people, armed with own nuclear weapons and a history of border clashes with Pakistan, could be "the crown jewel of the Taliban." We dare not let the largest democracy the world down. Gandhi will not stop the madness of this time.
Rudyard Kipling, in the 19th century, said it best on Afghanistan in the chorus: "When you're wounded and left on the plains of Afghanistan, and women go out to cut what remains, jest roll to your rifle and turn off the brain, a "go to God as a soldier. "
Once again, our great plan should be to help Pakistan being a healthy nation that avoids the Jihad. God bless our troops in that region by madness they face every day.
