The joy of the Revised Code
Code Review – Joy is everywhere
When you think of a social activity, what do you think? Perhaps a rave? Or maybe a quiet bridge quartet is more your style? Or even a Matrix-style full meet and greet with latex and contortionists? Ahem …
Or maybe you finally release this age requirement in the world that in fact the presence of an individual to enjoy a social meeting with them, and instead have embraced the reality of the 21st century, society and social interactions do not require physical presence, and in place all around us day, every minute, while (almost) get out there and find them. Speaking as a long time online gamer, I have a circle of people I consider friends I talk almost every night, with whom I spent time learning and playing as goal-based activities, but none that I know. And despite their reaction to a family tragedy for me may result in no more than a faint "uncle, blowing …" in any forums or otherwise, in all other aspects of social interaction, play exactly the same role as the few-and far-between the real, you know, friends that each of us cling to the whole life.
According to a study on the subject conducted earlier this decade, friendship is becoming a luxury for the average American adult. Instead to expand our circle of friends as travel has become more accessible to the masses, we have reduced the circle instead of an average of 3 to just above 1. So we are just becoming disagreeable, introvert, "bah humbug!" Ebenezer Scrooge applicants? Perhaps, and certainly that's the trite response statistics on people looking for a quick buzz word or device fault.
But perhaps instead of this reflects a net decrease of our quality of life, we are simply replacing much of what was considered necessary in previous generations (beer with the boys, poker night, trips ice fishing, what floats your boat) with a more consistent, more coherent, but at the same time, more arms length concept of friendship and social interaction. Although different, is everything we need in terms of communication and support, but it leaves us free to concentrate on our family life, personal or hobbies, or what we happy to be, well, us.
Friendship when you wish, on our terms, and only then.
One projection all this potential can be found in the current trend of social ties of life, business and relationships into the online marketplaces that have sprung up around the activity, or requirements-based approach (I referred to this in my first post on this issue, pointing to the correlation between citations Facebook, LinkedIn and prospecting, etc.).
Find a market, looking for a life (or perhaps a second life) – and, frankly, is that really different from the current reality of brick and mortar of the rat-infested, poorly Local smell of the distant past (unless, you know, the old screaming in fear at the corner of the street, and the propensity to catch the Black Death at one point to another …)?
In fact, my boss likes to describe an assistant architect at a recent conference by saying something like: "But what should we do about all these people age can only send one e-mail or, worse still need to use the phone? I mean, how I'm supposed to communicate with someone who does not have an account Facebook, or not keep up with Twitter? "Note that this was not a casual conversation with a beer, but rather a key point in a presentation (Presumably to a room full of people with the qualities required to be able to laugh amiably in this type of observations).
Like it or not, whether we personally I can deal with the migration of our relations in the ether, which is where they go in double quick time. So you're the guy with a sure red flag the cars just drive as fast as horses, or too busy building a Formula 1 car in your backyard?
And indeed, perhaps More importantly, whether you're any of these, you better believe his staff are busy climbing on board with all the new paradigm has to offer, so we really want to be left playing catch up?
At a recent meeting of the clients I was surprised to hear that this highly compartmentalized, installation classified was becoming a social media strategy in place (which he called "our space") to accept what was happening anyway, and obviously for try to contain it within the security mechanisms that require their business. If they can do with all restrictions and fenced classified stenosis have to face, why can not everyone?
Code review , you say? Social review code, rather. The current means of carrying out the objective is fundamentally broken and never have a multiplier effect, as the obligation to make friends with people who physically could only play with the hand. The paradigm is changing, the time to keep up.
