Myrtiotissa beeline to the beach – Corfu

There's a bee in my mousaka shine! Not moving. Just slipped into the dish in his own pool of olive oil. I have to complain, but after a week in this oasis of Corfu discover that I was accustomed to the antics on the beach of Myrtiotissa entrepreneur. With characteristic taste Yannis solve my problem with a finger and thumb. "It's one of mine," says Yannis "I keep them on the cliffs in the hives and sells honey," noting their jars of jam. "They just want their honey back"

Yannis hut of bamboo, elephant grass and driftwood on the beach is located of Myrtiotissa on the west coast of Corfu. Myrtiotissa beach is not easy to find a floating wooden sign nailed to an olive tree was my only clue. Walking along a winding dirt road through the olive trees I found myself standing on a cliff overlooking a tranquil bay. Fresh water running down the 200ft cliffs and rocks to down on the beach. Looking west I could see clear blue horizon Italy being 70 miles away. Myrtiotissa beach lacks the marketing is in Corfu other beaches isolated location means a walk of at least half an hour is needed to get to the beach. But trade is vibrant, its northern end is for clothing or naked sun lovers but its southern end is where the backpackers, travelers and residents of the islands of the gypsy mind reside. A hippie character emanates everywhere. Artists sell their paintings, friendship bands jewelry and sit naked in the sand for sun protection. Everyone is brown, a procession of bathers walk from the sea mirror for the shower freshwater flows from the cliff to the beach. Using olive oil to enhance your tan, while others play ball on the beach with their birthday suits.

Like going to beaches, the beach is hard to beat Myrtiotissa. Protected on three sides by vertical cliffs with a path of the snake that no vehicle can follow, its beach of fine sand in the sea gently slop. Standing on the edge of the water disappearing toes in the sand I think Joanne (wife of Yannis and rival to Ursula Andress in Dr. No ") in the evening returned from a diving adventure that shows a lot of black urchins who shines in the sun, a real pain if you stand on one and Juana self-appointed mission to rid these pests from the beach. Joanna shows me opening an orange food inside and then eat it raw, passing some to me. Tasting similar to the mussels I was pleasantly surprised.

Brown abound bodies could still distinguish between Germans, Scandinavians and British. The Italians are a separate category; cultural backgrounds can make themselves felt on a nude beach. Italian fashion conscious, drinking beer Scandinavian and German territorial British lobster color can be distinguished easily. However, the difference between residents and travelers of hardcore was more difficult to judge. "The best time to get to know who is who in the night, "says Joanna." As very few sleep on the beach at night. "

As the sun is low in the sky the day the visitors start to leave, a slew of wearing color and shape of snake slowly down the winding path and disappear from view. "Time quality "as Joanna described, starts about now.

Amble along the waters edge, with a stop at the "Beckham-style" hitch travelers to camp hidden from view from the main beach. Attracted by the smell of grilled fish, looked primitive life here, however, I could see, there were many who had opted to camp on the beach for several weeks. Familiar faces sitting in the shade just hours before gathered around a campfire. Rhythms of "Cat Stevens "played on a guitar are mixed with the heat of the night. Sleeping bags arranged in groups, logs arranged around the fire were all changed and ready for night to come. In a moment so perfect that it seemed a pity to leave.
