History of Hockey:
Throughout history people have played games involving a curved stick and a ball. There are drawings and representations of such events in ancient Egypt, Greece and the Middle Ages in Europe. There is even evidence of people playing hockey or stick and ball games and on the ice sixteenth-century Europe. And of course, as immigrants arrived in the Americas, they brought with them many of the games they had played in their respective countries, such as hurling hockey and others, such as games.
Current ice hockey owes much to the ancient games. Of the two, hockey is the forerunner and ice hockey was mainly a modification of the game to adapt to colder climates and such. The first organized ice hockey game is recorded to have taken place in Montreal, Canada in an indoor skating March 1875. It was not until 1904 that the first professional league ice hockey was formed in Michigan, United States, called the Professional International Hockey League. The league lasted all of four years, doubling in 1907. For hockey, the first international match took place between Ireland and Wales, with a high score of 3 to 0, Ireland winner.
In 1908 field hockey made its debut at the Olympic Games, was eliminated in 1924, but by the following Olympics was back in 1928. Ice hockey began in the Winter Olympics in 1924 and has played there since then, but it was not until 1960 that the U.S. won its first gold medal in ice hockey.

Playing Games:
For a regular game of hockey Ice is, of course, play an ice rink with a total of six players on each team, five regular players and a goalkeeper. The goal is to get the disc, which is made of hard rubber on the opposing teams goal and the team with the highest score wins. Players must use their sticks to move the hard drive or pass around a player to another. A team may be forced to play with only 5 players instead of the normal 6 if a player commits a foul and put in a penalty box for a short time, usually about 2 minutes.
Field hockey is played on a rectangular field 100 meters by 60 meters, with eleven players on each team. Again the idea is the same to get the ball small and hard, not a disc, on the other team scoring the goal, for it has to use the stick and teamwork. There is a defined area around each target semicircle called the shooting circle or arc. The team with the ball is called the attackers, while the team has the ball is called the defenders. A game or the game has two umpires to officiate, the field is usually split in half and each takes care of their midfield. The game has two periods each being 35 minutes long, the average time to break for five minutes.
