Home Bar Building Supplies

Problems loading an operating system on my new computer.
My computer specifications are: XFX nForce motherboard 680iLT Intel quad-core Q6600. 2.4GHz Corsair 4GB (4 x 1GB) DDR2 800. BFG 8600 GTS OC. Antec 430W power supply. Origonally I was using a SATA hard disk of 320 GB that my friend gave me. I will build my team yesterday and everything seemed great. After booting the computer, I started to install Windows Vista Home Premium. It would go to a screen with a loading bar saying "Windows is loading files" After the bar reached 100% it freezes or restarts. I tried to install XP and it was an error that said I had no hard drive installed. I swich hard drive with a larger 80GB hard drive. Vista still had the same problem, but I was able to begin installing XP on it. However, it has taken several hours to install so far and still not finished. It says "Windows installation is completed approximatly: 13 Minutes" The question is: What happens to my computer (if anyone knows) and what should I do?
SATA drives need a special driver. when loaded into a principle it says press F6 for drivers at the bottom of the screen. SATA drivers needed for your motherboard.
