Job prospects in uncertain times
With financial problems prevalent throughout the U.S. Today, many of us face uncertainty in our jobs well. Today (September 15, 2008) the Dow Jones fell 500 points, the biggest one-day loss in seven years. Merrill Lynch and Lehman is nothing Brothers is bankrupt. Along with the bursting bubble in the housing market and the financial problems of Fannie Mae, these are challenging times indeed.
So I thought today, how would I react if I lose my job? I have experience in sales, but with the weak U.S. dollar and most financial problems of the face, are simply not buying so much. People were using their home equity to buy goods, but that time has passed, leaving a picture pretty bleak for the stalls in general.
If he did return to the sales, which sell in this economy? Car Of course not! With gasoline prices as high as they are, do not think people are beating the doors in the local SUV. I guess the industry home improvement is also in trouble as which means the sale of flats is out.
I searched the net and found several articles touting great jobs that do not require a college degree! My initial enthusiasm faded when she noticed that an article that indicated an airline pilot "as their first choice. Ok … I'll read an eBook on how airplanes fly and then I'll apply on United Airlines. Becoming an airline pilot does not require a college degree, but I'm sure something that requires I have not, as a pilot's license and years of experience!
Another article listed nursing as an option for those without a college degree. Once again, nursing can not require a degree of good faith Harvard University, but I suspect that most hospitals require any training before you will push their patients with sharp objects. And I bet that training is not cheap or quick.
Perhaps you have a college degree, but jobs that require their skills are limited or declining demand. I know a lot of juice poor in the mortgage industry are implementing sales commission-paying jobs far below what they are accustomed to. My friend just got a job selling women's shoes in a department store. He not happy.
If you do your research and look hard enough, there are actually very few jobs out there with the potential to make 40k and until not require a college degree. People are always going out to eat, and the bars are always packed regardless of the condition of the economy.
Bartending is an option to consider. For people with sales experience barman can be an easy job to move into. You mixing drinks and chatting with people. Are not most salespeople good at doing both? And depending on their place of work, the advice can be very generous.
Food is also an economic one area where jobs are plentiful. It may not be glamorous position, he had always professional represented in yourself, but the tips can be good and when you need a quick work, is always an option.
Personally, if I get fired probably I'm going back to school and obtain an advanced degree in something like computer science. Meanwhile, I would do what had to to make ends meet, even if it means paid less. If you are looking for a job can not faint, the economy will turn around over time. Keep an open mind and look into areas that otherwise could not have into account.
