Canadian Whiskey Mixers

Do you think vodka is overrated?
1) Since vodka is mostly only used as a mixer, and has very little taste, it seems a rip-off to buy a bottle when much more flavorful drinks cost the same amount. Do you agree?
2) What does bourbon whiskey taste like? I’ve tried Canadian whisky, so can you describe the taste in relation to that?
3) What does Irish whiskey taste like? Do you prefer bourbon or Irish?
1. Not only does it have little flavor, it can be made of almost anything, and doesn’t get aged at all. It is cheap and easy to make vodka. That said, some are better than others, but the idea of “ultra-premium” vodka is absurd to me.
2. Bourbon will make Canadian whiskey taste like brown vodka, because it mostly is. Canadian Whiskey gets no respect because so much of it is diluted with grain neutral spirit. (vodka). It is sweeter due to being corn based, but it also (depending on the bourbon) be bolder and sometimes spicy and almost peppery. I hear there are some great Canadian ryes that are still straight rye, but I don’t know the names of them.
3. Irish is a malted barley whiskey like scotch, and it is more subtle than bourbon. Despite the fact that I have a very Irish last name and and Irish ancestry I don’t care much for it. If I’m going to have a malt whiskey I’ll drink Scotch, and the rest of the time I drink bourbon, so Irish just doesn’t do it for me.
