How can u open, sanitize and reuse a 15 gal beer keg?
I currently use the five barrels of soda for my gal brewing home, I have a few barrels full size and let me know if anyone has the instructions for removing the ball valve at the top. Thank you.
The ball valve in a barrel full size Sankey is under enormous pressure from the spring and is very dangerous to remove if you do not have the right tools. For remove the attachment, the first thing you need is a special tool that compresses the device. Saint Patricks of Texas (http://www.stpats.com/index.htm) is the tool for $ 75, this is called a drop in the removal tool from the valve. cleaning and sanitation will be like your corny keg just a little more difficult because the opening is much smaller. After using the tool to compress the spring proper, it is necessary to remove the locking rings to keep the valve in the barrel. These are only stainless steel rings that are placed between the housing and the upper ring of the barrel. A screwdriver can be used to remove them if you have nothing else. Be careful not make a dent, bend or break these rings. When we do this to replace accessories, rings use fresh every time. With the rings removed, slowly unscrew the tool to relieve pressure on the same apparatus. When the tool is completely unscrewed, the tool will come off the barrel and installation must fall.
