Three licenses prevent errors that could hurt their fundraising auction

Part of the responsibilities of an event planner include making sure every detail is covered. Above all the details surrounding the many rules imposed by municipal bodies, state and federal. Needless to say, it is very difficult to stay on top of everything.
Licensing varies widely from one place to another, but here are three licensing issues common than usually seen in relation to an auction to raise funds.
(I no I have for me to be an expert in the field, so always check with the authorities in their corner.)
# 1: a license for the raffle
Many states have regulations on raffles, sweepstakes and contests.
My Washington, DC customers have discussions as to whether they are involved in the licensing laws raffle. When an organization secures a raffle license, you must follow the rules that affect the advertising, the number of tickets sold, and so far the draw (a general officer, visit the site to witness the draw). By contrast, a contest – As a raffle – allows drawing and prizes to be distributed, but the visitor does not have to pay the fine because there is no such requirement.
I know of an organization conducts a lottery to avoid the complication of the rules of the raffle. When they ask guests to participate in the raffle, donations are encouraged because they can not sell tickets. Most guests make at least a $ 5 donation, but a donation is not required to win a prize.
# 2: a license to serve alcohol
Are you paying a company to manage the alcohol? Or was it the wine donated and volunteers are serving? Are students Minors delivering glasses of champagne? Is there a difference between serving alcohol in the wine compared to beer and hard?
There are so many variations in this unique space. I suggest you contact local authorities and check the rules.
No. 3: A licensed auctioneer
At this point, some of you are thinking, "Are you kidding? You need a license to be an auction house?
The answer: Yes, sometimes. This varies by area.
In Virginia and Florida, require a license. If a person accepts payment for calling bids at an auction profit ("payment" may be a meal), an individual must have a licensed auctioneer. The penalty for conducting an auction without a license is ~ $ 2,000 fine.
Get a certificate the auction is no more difficult than it is to obtain a driver's license. But a long time. Florida and Virginia, auctioneers must meet certain criteria such as: attend an approved school, secure a bond, pass an examination administered by the state, and keeping current education requirements. The license auction process is similar to purchasing a real estate license.
In Washington, DC, the laws are different. Almost anyone can enter the municipal building and – about $ 800 later – on foot with an auctioneer's license.
In Maryland, licenses varies by city or county. For example, Anne County Arundel requires a license from $ 250.
I'll be honest: Licensing is confusing, complex, and can be expensive. Here is a question that illustrates the challenges of this area: Although our nonprofit is based in Maryland, the auction will be held in an embassy in Washington DC. We'll have a raffle, but we only selling raffle tickets in the auction and raffle that night. Because we will be in "foreign land" (the embassy) for our period raffle all, what we need a license?
