Here are five examples (pictures included at the link):
1. WORLD’S FIRST BIG MAC
Back in the late 1960′s Jim Delligatti was the McDonalds overlord in the Pittsburgh area owning as many as 18 locations, but in 1967 sales were slow, America was not a fast food nation.
One day he noticed Big Boy restaurants were selling double-decker patty hamburgers and got inspired.
Jim Delligatti petitioned McDonalds HQ to stray from the common hamburger and cheeseburger and let him try his own creation, two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun, and in 1968 at a location in Uniontown, Pennsylvania the Big Mac was born.
2. WORLD’S FIRST CHOCOLATE BAR
In 1759, Joseph Fry started making chocolate. In 1761, Joseph along with John Vaughan purchased the chocolate business of Walter Churchman and named the company Fry, Vaughn, and Company.
In 1795 after the death of Joseph, Joseph Storrs Fry takes over the company and patents a method of grinding cocoa beans using a Watt steam engine. This helped bring factory techniques into the cocoa business.
After a variety of name changes because of deaths, the name is finally changed to Joseph Fry & Son. The company was moved to Keynsham close by Bristol, England.
In 1847, the factory molded the very first chocolate bar by mixing cocoa butter back into the chocolate and adding sugar. This created a paste, which could be molded into the form of a chocolate bar.
3. WORLD’S FIRST CLAMATO
Take some tomato juice and throw in some clam juice, that’s what the Duffy Mott Company of California did in 1969 creating a new drink category in blended juices called Seafood Blends and the world’s first Clamato.
What really amazes us is the marketing to take a combination of tomato juice and clam juice and actually convince people to pay money to drink it.
4. WORLD’S FIRST COCA COLA BOTTLE
Coca Cola Bottle was invented in 1886 by Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, as a tonic.
The first Coca Cola Bottle was sold on May 8 1886 at Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta.
In 1887 Asa Candler bought the recipe for $2,300.00 and took Coca Cola Bottle to the top of the soft drink industry.
The first Coca Cola bottles appeared on March 12, 1894 when Hutchinson style bottles were used to sell Coca Cola.
Up until 1905 Coca Cola Bottle still contained extracts of cocaine and was still sold as a tonic.
5.WORLD’S FIRST COCA COLA CAN
