Nutrition – What to drink?

In this series of articles we're looking at nutrition. So far we have talked mainly of desserts meats and vegetables …. which are the three components of most meals.

Since completing our focus on 'what to eat, let's examine what should be potable. If it is true that "we are what we eat, our heads to our feet," then we can accurately say that we are what we drink.

Make no mistake about it, it is entirely possible to gain weight excessive use only fattening drinks. Even if you look carefully at what we eat, which we can still do some serious damage to our scale if you do not watch what we drink.

As to the facts in the following drink: Root Beer * 12 can oz = 180 calories * Starbucks Caramel Mocha Whip 16 oz = 470 calories * Starbucks pumpkin spice whip cream * 16 oz = 500 calories Coca-Cola 32 oz (Size of fast food cup) = 310 calories * Orange Juice 10 oz = 140 calories * Powerade 21 oz = 140 calories * 8 oz skim milk = 80 calories * Water every portion size = 0 calories

The question that many of us have is that regularly consume large amounts of regular soda. The fast food chains and convenience stores have not exactly helped us in this field, either: the small, '"and" regular " sizes have been removed from many menus only to be replaced by "Supersize" and "Big Gulp sizes. (What happened to the regular drink "Size, anyway?) We have even seen some gas stations sell a 44 oz oil super-sized soda, which has at least 400 calories!

The important thing to note is that in the above list gives only skim milk protein and calcium they need without attaching too many calories. Yes Starbucks Caramel Mocha Whip has 13 grams of protein, but at a cost of 470 calories (this is approximately 25% of total calories than a typical woman should have in a day!).

However, in comparison see a double serving of milk (16 oz.) So that is the same as Starbucks Size serving: the same amount of skim milk and 16 grams of protein (compared to 13 for coffee) and only 160 calories.

Calcium is one of the nutrients most likely missing in the American diet. The calcium in milk helps build and maintain strong bones and teeth. This mineral also plays an important role in the function nerve, muscle contraction and blood clotting. Each 8-ounce glass of milk provides 300 mg or 30% of the daily value (or the recommended intake).

Vitamin D is found in milk helps promote calcium absorption and increases bone mineralization. Milk is one of the few food sources of vitamin D. Per serving 8 ounces of milk provides about 25% of the daily value.

Low-fat and nonfat milk has the same nutrients as whole milk with little or no fat. The American Heart Association endorses skim milk and low in fat to reduce fat in your diet, but still get the nutrients you need every day.

About three-quarters of Americans (or 75%) did not have enough calcium in their diets. Nine of 10 women and 7 out of 10 men fall short of the recommendations of Current calcium.

Many studies suggest that fat-free milk or low-fat, as part of a diet low in fat can help reduce the risk of hypertension. Hypertension or high blood pressure affects one in four Americans and is the leading cause of heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association recommends skim milk and low fat.

Chocolate milk is the most healthy drinks like white milk. Low-fat and fat-free packets of milk chocolate the same amount of calcium and nutrients as white milk, so it is a delicious way to build strong bones and healthy.

Drinking milk helps prevent osteoporosis when you get older. Osteoporosis affects 28 million Americans and one in five of those affected are men. Milk helps build strong bones because it is rich in calcium and vitamin D, which can double the amount of calcium absorbed by your body. You should drink more milk to help prevent osteoporosis

Milk is a great package nutrients of 9 essential vitamins and minerals, including calcium, vitamins A, D and B12, protein, potassium, riboflavin, niacin (nicotinic acid include equivalent) and phosphorus. Milk provides good nutrition for your body.

The choice is clear: choosing skim milk and water as the beverage of choice and see the pounds fall off. Only about 13 cents per serving ($ 2 per gallon), milk also makes an economical choice.
