Hallertauer substitute for hops?
My roommate and I have recently started brewing at home. We want to try a recipe Papazian we found in the "Charlie The New Complete Joy of Home Brewing," but the recipe calls Hallertauer hops, that due to the shortage of hops we can not find anywhere locally or online for a decent price (03.02 U.S. dollars for the hops and $ 10 shipping). Does anyone know of some more common varieties that can be used as a substitute?
I had to do the same thing recently. Best substitute is Mt. Hood. UCA is much higher, so you need to do some quick calculations and reduce the quantities used. Mt Hood was closest I could find a Noble Hop, and so far so good! Bada Bing Cherry Weizenbock in primary education with the same jumps right now!
