Beer Refrigerator Glass Door

A Day in the Life: Berlin 1890
The date is July 25, 1890. My name is Nils Hoffmann, born December 7, 1870 in Berlin. I have recently become my parents home after attending school in Potsdam. Hope to hear from a friend's father who runs a chemistry lab, because he had offered me a job in my graduation.
But business has stagnated in recent times for him, so in the meantime I have lived to the rental of a Baugesellschaft. My father has worked for this company the same building since it went into the workforce. There has been much work for him in this flourishing city. This company and others like City have spread to the point that has devoured its sister communities and made them one.
My parents, along with my sisters, ages 15 and 5, live in an apartment with two Kruezburg decent bedrooms, a few blocks down river. Our first home, those who live in the youngest before Mitzi was born, was located in the district of Charlottenburg. Despite my parents' first car was modest, it was a lovely place, situated in a quiet and clean neighborhood. As the rapid growth came to our small Charlottenburg, became less and less desirable. We were fortunate to check out our neighborhood has been completely surrounded by barracks for rent, and before the rent in the city became too high.
Our current house is a typical stone building three stories high, with ten apartments per floor. My parents were proud in this small home. Although I realize that has been tainted with unnecessary decorations since moved away.
I woke up from my sofa in the master bedroom. I was the first in my family, it was nice for me to enjoy myself a few minutes in the morning. Lit the lamp to improve visual skills and went to the adjacent kitchen. I searched in the refrigerator, and opted for two hard eggs and some leftover chicken Milanese. I cut the chicken and is sandwiched between two slices of weizenbrot.
My breakfasts are usually more ambitious than the usual breakfast Hoffmann family. In fact, Mitzi and I are the only two that eat about anything a good breakfast. My father is usually only have a cup of coffee, and my mother and my sister is jumping, or have a slice of French bread roll. When this family feels unmotivated inspired, they will also have sausage, sliced beef and orange juice.
My middle sister, Jutta woke up next. It is a tall, strong and intelligent girl. She dreams of going to study to become an engineer. It is not beyond their capabilities, I'm sure. The difficulty is that the area study is not available for girls, especially not a middle class girl. The cost alone would be too much for my family. Not to mention they have expressed their backs would not support beyond their secondary school.
I really feel horrible for the girl, she has all the potential in the world, but has grown in an environment nonsupporting, and probably not given many opportunities to prosper. The rest of the family soon awoke, and the little house was full of creatures, including the dog and cat. My mother worried about rambunctious Mitzi, and my father picking up his team.
He went to work at my father and I was a decent morning, the air was fresh and thick. The floor was wet with dew at night. We headed down the road to catch the tram. We had a job up on the south side Schoenberg. The region was becoming notorious for filth and poverty. Plain five story apartments spread over many blocks, and multiplied out to the field. The apartments filled blocks in the form of honeycomb, with a outdoor patio in the center.
Some of my friends lived on this side of town. All families shared the house kitchens. I never liked to spend the night there, the rooms were closed from sunlight. The whole place always smelled of rotting garbage. My last stay in one night at my old friend Bruno, I found several rats in my blanket when I awoke in the morning. He was very sick for several weeks. My parents would not let me thereafter there for good reason. But I remember there was a strong support on the patio. Bruno and I spent many afternoons interact with interesting characters the neighborhood.
As the tram made its way slowly through town, the factory passed in a blur seemingly endless. This city had become an industrial power in my life. Berlin was founded in 1244. At the turn of the century, the city was home to about 200,000, and most were employed small industrial enterprises. He also served important military duties. At the time of my birth and German unification, the city held 900 000 inhabitants. Today the city is home to 1.9 million, and growing. The municipal authorities are making efforts to accommodate growth by widening streets and the incorporation of traffic systems. Many of the main streets are lined up with lights.
We hopped the tram a few blocks of the work on farms Schoneburg and walked the remaining distance. This area was once filled with crops of potatoes. The lucky ones have owned one of these farms became millionaires developers once the land purchased.
We were in the process of pouring a concrete foundation for an apartment complex. Our residential projects picked Baugesellschaft a large scale. We have completed a project in Hasquietrel few weeks ago. That area used to be a swamp, unfit for construction. However, several shiploads of sand were transported by the river and spread over the marsh.
The motto of this company is the quantity over quality. The company pays a fixed fee project. Therefore workers faster than throw these buildings, no matter the neglect of the work, more money from the company so you can do. What is possible, unless we work in a hurry, for us to lose money to work. Although often not the case, the system seems counter intuitive. I think if we gave more time the quality of our product would increase, and therefore they could charge more for our services. However, this line of work has been busy all summer, and better paid than most other jobs.
The day grew hot as I methodically mixed concrete. When performing the same task for hours, learn to keep busy with their own thoughts. My mind was still centered in the city, which seemed to have grown overnight. The origin of this rapid growth attributable to the industrial boom. Germany and Berlin in particular had become a world power in steel production. Chemical laboratories were also emerging all over the city. The development of industrial uses for chemicals was helping us capture of the British.
Germany was an economy of large companies. Only the very rich could finance a steel mill or chemical laboratory performance. These capitalists raise money by organizing companies, and the sale of shares. The executives at these corporations would be rich. Below them, individuals would be hired specifically for sales management, production and finance. My grandfather worked for the IG Farben chemical cartel, which now dominates the industry in Germany. Some other industries in Germany include coal, glass, potash and cement.
The state of the German economy is unstable. The net national product is declining. Twenty percent of companies recently Founded in bankruptcy. U.S. and Russian products have flooded grain on the German market, which has proven to be the main factor contributing to our economy in crisis.
In the distance, I saw one of the managers job to a scream of view of Polish workers. The mere sight of put a sour taste in my mouth. Most of these men wake up every morning, put in the same cloth, and goes to work for the same company, performing the same tasks on a daily basis. They have to listen to this asshole, which I have found is not more talented than many of the workers. It makes it worse that I feel are more efficient ways to carry out these tasks, but our foreman is resistant to a new method apparently is not broken, so it will not fix them. My father and I are of equal value to this company as any foreman or site administrators work in terms of how productive we are in a given time frame. The difference is that we receive a much smaller percentage of the cream. This company is basically screwing us. Those in the top most income and yet similar amounts of work.
Unfortunately, no one to stand up for itself because we are all aware of our dispensability at this time. The unions among unskilled workers have grown in popularity, however. Socialists have recently formed the Second International union. The Socialists have been able to unify, and now have the ability to spread their cause more effectively.
The concrete mixing continued, and I heard of another man Camper age of imperialism. Four years ago, the Berlin Conference was held. Also set the basic rules for claiming territory on the African continent. Basically, a country needs sufficient strength and manpower to control and develop there. The native Africans would be treated humanely. "It's an exciting time. This is our chance to flex our muscles and show the rest of the world Germany is a dominant force. "Camper said.
I had to admit that seeing my country colors spread around the world encourage a sense of pride. "If a country decides not to participate in the emancipation of the Bavarian land, I fear that one day they also lose their land. If I were in one of these countries passive me would be scared out of my wits. Here comes the great German team. "Roared with pride. With the sun directly overhead, the lunch was upon us. I cleaned up my area work and went.
Lunch is traditionally the largest meal of the day. I had arranged to meet my girlfriend's house this afternoon. Normally I went home, but was near East Elbia and your pantry used to be much more comprehensive, and their parents much more interesting and helpful than mine. Elbia East is one of the class neighborhoods in the city.
Mr. Thalberg managed a department store, but had inherited a large sum of wealth. Today, he was active in politics local party member who is preferred by Junker. I worked for him a few summers ago. He and I talked often and liked enough to introduce me to his second daughter, Petra. We started seeing each other for two years, but it seems that they are splitting. I have the feeling that she does not care much for me, but his family loves me therefore have remained together. Many times I have come to the Thalbergs only to drink beer and talk with Mark and Teresa (his parents).
I whole heartily Teresa welcomed by the door. The apartment was spacious and well decorated. Marko was enthusiastically talking on the phone. No one else knew that property. I always wondered who was talking.
The maid, Irmgard his breakfast was ready, and quite a spread. The oven consisted plethora kartoffel, Curry-Wurst, bratwurst, and a marinated beef pot roast dish served with red cabbage and dumplings called sauerbraten. I chose a sampling of all the options, but omitted the grievances and cakes.
I noticed that Petra was down. Although I like to play mind games with her, I found myself making a conscious effort to avoid going to see it. If she wanted to see me, could rise. Moreover, Marko was generally more interesting conversation.
"I just got off the phone with a lobbyist proposes a bill to give women the vote, "he said. Then he began to laugh." 'Not in the short term, my friend, "I said. Besides, you know, the same nature of being a woman would suffer if given political power. "I realized immediately this statement was correct. Being a woman and no political power did not correlate directly to the women were not identified by the lack of political power. For me it was simple, why was it so hard for this man to see? If were kind enough not to let their daughters hold me hand, I would have said what I felt.
"No, look, men women really value prize. Seriously. There must be someone to care for the house. Home is where the heart is. If the heart is torn, then the mechanism of the family is not going to work. The dynamics of the family be thrown off if the women are forced out in the workplace, and forced to make the kinds of decisions that have to do. When I see working women, is a sign that your husband is not doing his job as the provider of resources. "
As he spoke, I remembered reading an essay by Clara Zetkin. She argued that only women who are treated fairly when all workers are freed from the oppression of economic and social world. In the act came into light. This man had never seen poverty. Maybe he did not understand. For most of the villagers, it is impossible to obtain any economic reason, because they were working as many hours as humanly possible only to pay debts. That is, if there is even enough work for him. With women of the family can not participate in making money, some families are trapped. The issues of women's rights and workers are intertwined, and the workers and peasants said the heaviest burden.
I finished my meal, Marko gave a handshake, Irmgard a hug goodbye and Petra peep. I walked lazily back to work full of food.
At this point, the sky was very hot. Feeling uninspired to beat cement, I again tried to change my approach to the interior, and new thinking about the city. In 1871, Berlin was named the capitol. Many were upset with this decision. Others saw in Berlin as a rough and Berliners were thought to be unruly and rebellious. Improvements were made in the city including street improvements and sewer system. But Berlin never has fit the mold of a capital. It is not considered modern, and Bismarck provided our city with little financial support. Bismarck rarely reached the city. It usually holds conference Potsdam, which has long been a favorite residence of the Kings. In 1881, Berlin became an independent city-state of Brandenburg. The city looks very different today then it did when I was a child. It is still struggling to adapt to his new title.
Finally, were released from our duties. I cleaned up my station work and went home to be washed. I remembered I was out to dinner to my uncle this afternoon, so along quickly.
I got to my uncles as the sun descended into the trees. I was the first in my family to arrive, it was uncomfortable, my aunt and cousins are socially awkward. My aunt was running vacuum cleaner, and my uncle was preparing to fire.
My three younger cousins were reluctantly practicing their violins. I would have liked the opportunity to learn an instrument. In recent years I have come to appreciate real music. Some of my favorite artists include Gustav Mahler, Robert Schumann, Richard Wagner and Arnold Schoenberg. I realized that children were trying to test a piece of Beethoven.
Dinner at my uncles meant a heated political debate was inevitable. I made sure to think of some topics for discussion before coming. Elections to replace Chancellor Bismarck approached. Otto von Bismarck was appointed Chancellor ago twenty years. He had long supported universal male suffrage. He believed that the influence of the liberal middle classes would be eliminated. Also believed his conservative policies have the support of the workers and peasants.
Bismarck was able to unify the German states and individuals under Prussia. He brought all the statute books, coins, and the military forces the smaller states in conformity with those of Prussia. Laws were passed asserting rights of states to restrict orders religious and civil marriage required. Managed to unite all education under state control, including the Catholics have schools. The clergy resisted and Authorities arrested hundreds of priests and six bishops. However, many of these measures counterproductive and actually did the Roman Catholic Center Party stronger. Several years later the initial attack, Bismarck repealed the toughest laws against Catholics.
At that time, his focus had shifted to the fight against socialist and radical democratic mentality. Socialists attacked the autocratic nature of the German government. As the Social Democratic Party began to gain popularity, Bismarck responded by banning its publications. The repressive tactics failed. Bismarck once again changed its approach. He tried to eliminate the causes for the socialism, and to tarnish the appeal of the Social Democrats to the working class. In recent years, carried out social reforms of Bismarck Insurance which provides accident, sickness and old age. Last year Kaiser Wilhelm died, and his son took over the title. A few months ago, Wilhelm II dismissed Bismarck.
Members of my family began to get home. My mother, father, sisters and grandparents gathered in the lounge room saying greetings.
As usual, men finally met at one end of the room, and women at the other end complain to the children. The most likely continue to complain all night. I would like to participate in our discussions. However, it would be well received by my uncle and grandfather, or are willing to talk politics. In general, women adults have no social skills. I am concerned, for the girls who went to primary school were no less capable than either of the boys. It is as if they never develop. Why does this happen? Could it be that the they were not allowed to participate in many social activities are tricks growth? I hope this does not happen to Jutta.
As I expected, they began to discuss the possibilities of the next election. To the far right of the political spectrum are the Prussian Junkers. Since usually are elitist, and therefore few, often along with other conservative groups.
A conservative party and conservatives is free, the part that my claims uncle. They are businessmen and industrialists who oppose high tariffs to promote free trade.
Below are the National Liberals, who are in favor of a constitutional monarchy. Promote political reform to make government more representative. This group is popular in Germany.
On the left is the dreaded and growing social. They are usually workers who want a socialist government.
My family tends to lean conservative, especially my grandfather. "Farmers scare the hell out of me. The unruly drunks fucking city burn down and kill his brother, who does not know any better. That's why you have to stay away from all these democratic reforms, will allow farmers to govern the city. "
My uncle had a vision pessimistic of the situation. "They will not have much influence on anything. The members of the upper house are appointed for life by the king. They have the power to pass to heirs from his seat. Although they are overrepresented in Berlin, Prussia holds 26 of the 56 deputies. They have the third needed to block anything they do not like come to Berlin. Since fear this city is not likely to side with us on many issues. "
The discussion moved to the kitchen where the maid Elsa family called us for dinner, as usual insistent. Dinner was typically a light meal. This option includes evenings slices of French bread, cheese, deli turkey and salad and pickles. I chose a portion of each.
Discussion had been transformed. "Willpower is what allows people to survive. People who live stronger are the ones in power. His talent, strength, and intelligence, this is what makes leaders. "Said my father. "Like anything else, if you show that you are kind, modest and compassionate, his shows its weaknesses. Say what you want on the policies of Bismarck, but he has the fortitude to lead this country. "
Knowing my father is a champion of democracy, I could help, but to declare "I Bismarck, but resigned to democracy for years. It took more and more control of economic policies and its mandate continued. With current policies, it is impossible that our country can grow economically. At this moment we are in crisis. Not only that, but since their are so many economic issues mounting reforms that will surely be placed in the background. "
"Hey, there was nothing wrong with the way it used to be. They are always trying to change this and improve that. The city was a quiet place before Bismarck. Today, I walk the streets and get lost in my own damn town. "There was no point discuss with my grandfather. He would not be open to something new at the age of 76 clever.
I finished my dinner and said goodbye. I went to the pub to celebrate birthday my friend Dolf.
Life pub. No doubt, Berlin is the beer, and in large quantities. Since the weather here is a bit too harsh for growing grapes, Beer has always been a staple of German culture. Even tribal Germans are known to have been drinking beer. Dolf was a favorite tavern, which was quite sordid properly.
I went into the carnival as a backdrop, and found my group in a final table. At first glance, I realized that the boys had been there for an hour or so. Dorf and I exchanged our usual greeting detestable. I ordered a pint of Pauline for me and an old Lowenbrau deer Dorf. He is a native of Bavaria, home of breuerie first in the world, and Germany's most notorious drinkers. Dorf fit perfectly with the stereotype. He was strong, proud, and a regular alcohol. I really loved the man, he was a true friend. Unfortunately, it was not a scholar by any means.
"You would not believe, Annette is selling it around the corner, "said Dorf. She was a playmate like ours since childhood. The poor girl had an education terrible. "I think I will buy tonight." he chuckled. "Are you sure you ball of filth."
Tavern life was not glorious. I like to go often because it was a pretty depressing scene. Germany is not known for great entertainment. I guess creativity is drawn from people after a long day at work. And that was it, Berlin was a city hustle and bustle. There was little time for self reflection. In fact, emotions were not to be expressed especially by men. For my part, I enjoy taking walks in the countryside to relax. The majority of colleagues in my country, however, adhere to the methods traditional relieve stress. The lower classes are particularly susceptible to falling into the trap of drunkenness. Many peasants exclusive unit was to live to drink another beer.
Tabernas always seemed to bring out the pride in people, or perhaps more accurately, take pride Boo. Two of my friends were having an argument irrelevant with a French man about which country was stronger. The poor, ignorant was better off just agreeing to my friends would be willing stubborn to continue for hours on Germany supremacy. If a fellow could not find out, would have an opponent willing to fight over who was more German.
It requires a more insightful conversation, I heard my friend Darrin, a clever Scott preaching his liberal views. "It's the competitive individualism and lack collective values that are destroying the bonds that connect people to each other. "I had to admit I felt like this. Despite all the Germans were proud, we had to compete every day. "Money is just a new form of slavery." It was a strong supporter of many socialist ideas. "Our party believes that a revolution is inevitable. Meanwhile, for us it is important to cooperate with the capitalist classes. We have the same objective in the short term. Once the target common is reached, then we can gradually start to implement socialist aspects. "
Although their views were gaining popularity, the view at the other end spectrum was prominent in the pub tonight in particular. Minds are increasingly nationalist anti-Semitic. Berlin had a decent sized Jewish population. Most arrived in the last 25 years, his talents were in high demand when the city began to develop. I remember my younger years, when Germany was not a hostile place for Jews. However, as the years have gone, a feeling of envy is brewing in hatred of non-Jews.
"It was the Jews who killed Christ, "Dorf belched out." That's not the point. We Germans belong to a special breed, you know. We have higher physical qualities and mentally. "Explanation of a tavern called regular Oswin. Here is a man who was very charismatic, and did not hesitate to express his strong nationalist views." You see, it is because of these natural differences that Jews and Germans can not coexist. Jews are the cause of much misery in Europe. They find ways to scam money and then keep everything to themselves. This is why hoarding democracy and socialism can not work. Not to mention the fact that they are all assholes, "he continued.
Darrin leaned to my ear. "I think many Germans are wrong to think they are superior, especially when it comes to obtaining and managing wealth. Jews are simply dominant in the financial world. I dread to think what would happen if these Ultra nationalists would gain more political power. "
The night was getting late, and the crowd was thinning, but noisy with increasing intoxication. I decided to go home. I left without saying goodbye. I avoid the dismissed because my friends make me feel guilty for leaving. "It's my birthday, not stay out all night? Who cares if you work in the morning," he said.
As I walked past the unfortunate slum, I saw my step. Bands of drunken, unemployed was hiding in the dark. Think I started back to my readings of Darwin and the theories of Newton. I realized that knowledge is spreading. Soon, even the members of this community would be unfortunate cognitive these ideas. It inspired me to think about that possibility, for once, our people have the power of knowledge, we will no longer tolerate oppression. With more members of society liberated there is a greater likelihood that the talent will surface. With more talent, future generations are more likely to be able to respond to issues affecting our minds as human beings.
