Why do malt beer beverages hurt my stomach?
Yes I eat plenty of food before drinking. When I drink any malt beers (bacardi, smirnoff, etc.) my stomach hurts so bad it feels like my stomach is ripping apart..even after one it hurts! What causes this? Am I allergic?
One of the things it could be is coeliacs disease / gluten intolerance. It could also be an alcohol allergy.
Almost all beer has barley in it which, although completely different to wheat, has the same effect on people who are gluten intolerant. Smirnoff Ice does too if I remember correctly. As do all whiskeys.
Go to your GP and tell him your symptoms. If he doesn’t help you then ask him to test you for a gluten allergy / alcohol allergy. For a gluten allergy test you’ll be required to eat gluten for a few weeks and then go back for a simple biopsy. If you DO have coeliacs then it is very wise to do this now as once you become more intolerant it will be agony to keep eating enough gluten to show positive on the test.
