Beer Drinking Team Names

Where's the Tinker a drink called her name?
The drink is made by dropping a glass of whiskey in a cup of beer. But why is called a boilermaker? My friend told me it had something to do with Princeton, but he did not know why. Tinker is also the name of Purdue University sports teams and alumni.
Wow, color me surprised. I spent some time trying to find an answer and all I have is conjecture. It seems that you has discovered one of the great enigmas of society. This is what I found. The Oxford English Dictionary first used the term "tinker" in 1834 to describe the craftsmen who built the steam locomotives. Although I found some places claim the drink was already so-called * before * the OED decided to add it. Perhaps the metal workers and blacksmiths who would become known as "tinkers" had a penchant for taking your drinks assembly line style. The plot thickens. Enter a guy named Richard Trevithick, a Cornish blacksmith, who was an early experimenter with steam propulsion vehicles. On Christmas Eve 1801, in the village of Cambourne, it was proposed to test his latest invention, a vehicle driven by steam road. Basically, they urged and some others to the top of a hill, where the war bar, came in and started drinking to celebrate his great invention. He left the fire burning steamer truck. The truck ran out of water, the wooden parts were burned, and Richard and his friends came to learn that the party had fouled his way drunks in history auto-antic. Perhaps he liked to double fist her baby, or save time by combining beer and whiskey in a suitable container. I hope help, Odd
