Beer Dog Collars

What happened to my beer?

Me and a few friends were away for a drunken weekend and we put our beers in the freezer, smart i know. Me and another friend were splitting a pack of coors so we had bought he beers at the same time. We put them in the freezer at the same time. When i took two beers out of the freezer i noticed a collar on one of the beers, thought nothing of it. But when i looked back the collar had grown. it was the beer freezing from the top down. we watched the beer freeze completely from the neck of the bottle down to the bottom then it slowly thawed. the other beer one completely fine though. it never froze of had this collar. So what happened? Was it something to do with gas escaping the liquid raised the freezing level? Was it God trying to prove he existed? Was it “because of those meddling kids and their dog”?
Ok, great answers so far. Only thing is i forgot to ask is why did the same thing not happen to my other beer? Also the freeze happened before the bottle was opened.

The freezing point is reduced when liquid is under pressure. so it will stay liquid.
as you take the top off gas escapes the pressure drops and the freezing point rises to above the Temperature of your beer out of the freezer and there you go, ICED beer!
If back above ‘freezing’ before opening the contents would be fine ,if a bit flat, the collar would be moisture from the air freezing on the outside of the can/bottle.
Try it with the kids lemonade next time.
