Wine lovers: French Varietals?

I filled out a job application for a job bartending in a wine bar. One of the questions in the questionnaire soon to be handed over "The name of five varieties of Bordeaux." My understanding of varietal is a wine that bears the name of the principal grape variety with which they did, and the French names its wines like this. Boreauxs are almost always called "________" castle or something else to indicate the domain and the vineyard. Can anyone clarify? How many useless answers of adolescents who are trying to be cute is THIS one is going to get !?!?!

You are right. The person who asked the question should have asked 'Name VARIETIES five Bordeaux varietals used in the manner you describe. That is, a wine made from only (or mostly) of a variety and variety is called on the label. Unfortunately, this word has been rapidly degraded and used tools often in place of the variety. Interestingly, the question from five varieties. I wonder if the questioner thought only of red Bordeaux (which can be made from five varieties) because, of course, more varieties used in Bordeaux – in particular, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon for white fine dry and sweet wines. Good luck – I hope the work (Later edit – I'm just laughing at the cut and paste job showing over St Emilion, as not part of Bordeaux and Bordeaux implies that the British call Sauternes "- Claret is red Bordeaux and St Emilion including:)
