Should I go to bartender school if I only plan to do while I work my way through college?
I need money for college, and I've been reading about it, but not say how long is the school bartender. some sites say it is essential and some say forget it. Do I attend or not? How much does it cost and how long is it?
I never needed Bartending School. There are lots of different drinks, but do not really need to know how to make ALL of them. I have worked as a cocktail server first, I learned a lot of drinks that way, but as a waiter, I margaritas, tea Long Island, whiskey sour, amaretto sour, whiskey and whatever, and whatever rum, gin / vodka tonics, gin / vodka martinis. And I opened a lot of beers. I also went to London, got a job at an Irish pub. He had to learn to serve a "proper" Guinness and whiskey in different ratios of coke, and much use less ice. I think schools barman a scam. A lot of bars have a seniority system, starting as a staff assistant bar or a server in the bar and work your way as people quit smoking. All bars have a book of recipes drink, if you do not know it, look it up! Bartending can be fun, it's more about your attitude than anything else.
