How to start bartending? (After school)?
How to start bartending? I finished school, but I have no real experience – although I know more than a lot of waiters who I met, who do not know how to mix and do not know much about the drinks. I am in New York / New Jersey area. Any good suggestions and advice would be appreciated.
Best place to start is by applying for the job. Do you know someone who is a waiter? Do you know the waiters at your local bar? If you do not get to know them. Bartenders tend to have their own "secret society" and talk a lot about where there are vacancies. Start in a small bar, unless you have a great experience and knowledge in cocktails, your chances of getting a job at a big club are slim. Build your own reputation once started, be inventive drinks (create a) find something that sets you apart from the rest out there.
